After a quick breakfast at my hostel, I hopped on a train to Pisa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pisa. On the train, a couple from Florida and a girl my age asked me if our train was going to Pisa. I felt like an expert! The trains are confusing because you can book a train to one place but on the departure board it lists a train to another city that stops at your destination along the way (but you have no idea if it’s the right train until you look at the listing on a board the size of my garage door). What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? So, anyway the girl in the train and I started chit-chatting and she was traveling alone and headed to Pisa so we decided to discover all the sights together. So, Pisa is a small little city. You take a 15 minute walk from the train station and you can see this odd tower leaning in the background. Seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa was one of my favorite stops so far. We also stopped at the Batistero and Duomo before stopping for some caramel flavored gelato. I don’t think I have had a gelato I didn’t like. We hopped back on the train after only 2.5 hours of exploring Pisa. The train ride back to Florence was an adventure. There was a man sitting in the seat behind us. He started yelling profanity in English and in Italian. Then he started banging on the windows and walls and calling Clare and I “English bitches.” He then told the man sitting next to us he was an “ass-licker” and threw his cigarette at him. We remained calm, made no eye contact, and got up quietly and moved to the next cable car. This poor man was losing his mind! Luckily for us, our stop was only 5 minutes away and we got off safe and sound. Clare and I headed to Buca Niccoline for a late lunch. I tried spinach-stuffed ravioli with rocket. It was quite tasty. We then toured the Santa Maria del Fiore, Batistero, and Campanile di Giotto http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Maria_del_Fiore. We finally headed to the Galleria dell’Accademic to see The David http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_David. It was an amazing piece of art and it is much bigger than what pictures make it out to be. Unfortunately, no one could take any pictures inside the museum. We inquired about this stupid rule to the security guards eyeing us and there only answer was, “It’s a law.” So, we headed over to the Piazza Santo Stafano to see a model copy of The David. We finally crossed the Ponte Vecchio Bridge and said our goodbyes. I am sure we will meet again. After a nice long Skype with my whole family, this chick is headed to bed for a fun-filled adventure tomorrow. Wait until you see what I rented!
