Today, Caterina and I headed to Villa D’Este to admire the beautiful fountains and gardens in Tivoli (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villa_d'Este). ; After the gardens, we window shopped and enjoyed some coffee flavored gelato.  We missed the train back to Guidonia only by five minutes so we had to wait another hour for the next.  When we got home, I wanted to cook for Caterina so I made linguine with pesto for lunch (thanks to Kate Mahoney for this lovely recipe).  Later in the afternoon, I booked my hostels for the last few days of my trip.  It looks like after leaving Venice, Bologna, and Verona, I’ll be heading to Pisa and Florence.  Caterina thinks I am crazy to be visiting so many places on such a short stay.  I told her I am “wonder woman” and it can be done!  I don’t know when the next time I’ll be back to Italy will be so I need to see as much as possible while I am here.  Tonight’s dinner is breaded chicken and bean soup.  The smell in the house is wonderful and the taste is even better.  Tonight’s dinner conversations was more about schools in Italy.  I learned that when students enter what we consider the ninth grade here, they choose a specialized school for mathematics, language, etc.  They do this for five years, and then they may apply for College.  Students do not have to go to school in the district in which they live.  They may choose to go to whatever school they wish.  Doesn’t this seem smarter?  Scroll to Education: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_of_Italy#Education

I’m headed to bed early for tomorrow’s adventure to the island of Capri.
