Whirlwind Trip To Europe

I'm headed to London, St. Malo and Paris for back-to-back meetings to start 2011 exactly right with our European partners. It will be tiring, but very rewarding.

A headline in the NY Times today reads, "The City Was Ready But The Weather Wasn't." New York got a dusting. My home in Guilford received a foot of snow.

I have a great driver.  His name is Jimmy.  He likes to get me to the airport in plenty of time to leisurely stroll through security and slowly hobble down to the gate.  I don't like to travel like that, though.  I prefer pulling up to the terminal as the door on the aircraft closes.  I mean, if you are traveling, you may as well have some fun, right? Bombs in underwear aside, it's pretty easy to spice up your travel.

So Jimmy picked me up at 4:00 a.m. this morning in a foot of snow.  I guess he was thinking the 2 hour ride to Newark Liberty Airport would take at least 3 hours because of snow and ice.  What Jimmy didn't do was check the Internet for NYC weather.  He could have picked me up at 5:30 a.m.  Even on my iPhone, AccuWeather had NYC with "mostly cloudy with 0.003 inches of precipitation.  Not exactly a good reason to throw me into the back of a 4-story Lincoln Navigator with tank tracks.

At my age, another 90-minutes of snooze time is huge.  I'm going to go out on a limb here and conclude that Jimmy is the reason I am bald, gaining weight and I'm certain he's the cause of my bad back.  Why not blame Jimmy?  I'm at the airport 3 hours early.  I'd rather be sleeping.

I will most certainly make my plane to London.  Unless of course I fall asleep in the airport.

See you in London in about 7 hours!
